Mireille Perrier and Isaach De Bankolé star in this French drama co-written and directed by Claire Denis. When France Dalens (Perrier) returns to the region of Cameroon where she grew up, she is overwhelmed by memories of her childhood. As a young girl, her father was a colonial administrator in Cameroon and she befriended Protée (De Bankolé), their family's servant, who was caught up in an impossible situation involving France's mother, Aimée (Giulia Boschi).
