About the artist
About the artist
Marvelous Kid were a British progressive rock band formed in 1970 in the St Austell area of Cornwall by drummer Paul Moon, guitarist Tony Coxon and keyboardist/vocalist Steve Betts. Initially a trio, the group later expanded with saxophone and bass and developed a style influenced by progressive rock, jazz and the Canterbury scene.
The band appeared at the 1971 Glastonbury Fayre and played extensively around south-west England before relocating to the London area. Bassist/vocalist Frank Artés and saxophonist/flautist Ivor Carroll joined during this period. In 1973 the group recorded material in Dublin for a proposed album which remained unreleased at the time.
In 1974 Carroll was replaced by Pete Davey, formerly of Ben and Patto. This final line-up continued writing, recording and performing around London until Marvelous Kid disbanded in September 1975.
