All five Christmas specials of John Sullivan's popular comedy starring
David Jason, Nicholas Lyndhurst and Buster Merryfield. In 'To Hull and
Back' (1985) Del (Jason) and Rodney (Lyndhurst) think they've come up
trumps when they're offered the chance to travel to Amsterdam and
collect some diamonds on behalf of Boycie (John Challis). But things are
never that simple, and the boys soon find that they have Chief
Inspector Slater (Jim Broadbent) hot on their trail, making their
passage to mainland Europe very difficult indeed.
In 'A Royal
Flush' (1986) when Rodney begins dating the Duke of Mallbrey's daughter
(Sarah Duncan), Del is on hand with tickets to the opera - the only
problem is that Del insists on accompanying them! Later on in the week,
when Rodders is invited to a shooting weekend, the last thing he needs
is for Del to arrive with a sawn-off shotgun. In 'The Frog's Legacy'
(1987) Del and Rodney seem to have struck it rich when it transpires
that one of their mum's gentlemen friends, known as Freddy 'the Frog',
died leaving them a fortune in stolen gold bullion. Now all they have to
do is locate it! In 'Dates' (1988) The Trotters take a few days off
because, for a change, the business is doing rather well.
Uncle
Albert (Merryfield) is planning to celebrate his birthday in style while
Del joins a dating agency and meets an out-of-work actress, Raquel
(Tessa-Peake Jones), who he could see himself spending a lot of time
with. Finally, in 'The Jolly Boys' Outing' (1989) Del, Rodney, Uncle
Albert, Trigger (Roger Lloyd-Pack) and Boycie embark on their annual
outing to Margate, but end up stranded when their coach explodes.
Meanwhile, Rodney finds his marriage placed in jeopardy, and Del meets
Raquel again.
