Feeling responsible for the death, Crowe sees a chance to assuage his guilt by helping troubled young Cole Sear (Osment), who claims to be haunted by dead people. As the bond between doctor and patient grows, Crowe becomes increasingly estranged from his wife, until Cole helps him to see the truth.
