Robert De Niro stars in this psychological drama directed by Martin Scorsese. Vietnam veteran Travis Bickle (De Niro) works nights as a New York City taxi driver and finds himself consumed with disgust by the filth and crime which surround him. With his thoughts turning increasingly violent, he attempts to assassinate a politician, but when he fails, he turns his attention to saving Iris (Jodie Foster), a 12-year-old prostitute, from the clutches of her pimp.
The cast also includes Cybill Shepherd and Harvey Keitel.
